JB MDL Spouses' Club Scholarship Applications

Please review the following information before proceeding to the applications submissions pages.  

If you have questions or concerns about the following information, please email the Scholarship Chair immediately with your questions and/or information regarding your unique circumstances so they may be addressed prior to the scholarship deadline.  The Scholarship Chair can be contacted at jbmdlscholarship@gmail.com. 


Eligibility


Category 1 - HIGH SCHOOL

The applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Be a graduating high school senior attending a high school within a 50 mile radius of JB MDL (with at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale)
  2. Be a legal dependent of an Armed Forces member who is:
    • Active Duty and assigned to a Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR 
    • A Reserve member and assigned to a JB MDL unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR
    • a National Guard member and assigned to a JB MDL unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR
    • a retired* military member residing within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL, OR
    • a deceased military member residing within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL. 
  3. Possess a current valid military Identification Card
  4. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college, university, vocational technical institute or recognized fine arts institute for the 2018-2019 academic year
  5. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of this notification.


Category 2 - CONTINUING EDUCATION (Spouse & Dependent Undergraduate Continuing Education)

The applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Be a legal dependent of an Armed Forces member who is:
    • Active Duty and assigned to a Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR 
    • A Reserve member and assigned to a JB MDL unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR
    • a National Guard member and assigned to a JB MDL unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL at time application is submitted, OR
    • a retired* military member residing within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL, OR
    • a deceased military member residing within a 50-mile radius of JB MDL. 
  2. Possess a current valid military Identification Card
  3. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college, university, vocational technical institute or recognized fine arts institute for the 2018-2019 academic year.  Individuals currently enrolled in a program must possess at least a 2.5 cumulative college grade point average on a 4.0 scale. 
  4. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of this notification.


Limitations & Conditions


Restrictions - Applies to ALL Categories

  1. The JB MDL Spouses' Club reserves the right to determine eligibility, to increase, to decrease, or to withdraw any or all awards. 
  2. Recipients must be enrolled in their accredited college, university, vocational technical institute or fine arts institute in the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year. 
  3. The number of scholarships awarded and dollar amount of each scholarship are determined by the success of fundraising endeavors of the JB MDL Spouses' Club for the year.
  4. Scholarships presented at the annual JB MDL Spouses' Club Scholarship Awards function must be deposited into the student's account at the school within 120 days of receipt or returned to the JB MDL Spouses' Club Welfare Fund for the next alternate candidate's use. 
  5. Recipients from this category may apply and receive a scholarship two consecutive years in a row only. Dependent children may apply once as a high school senior and then once as a dependent child undergraduate continuing education. 
  6. Recipients must remain in good community standing or are subject to scholarship withdrawal. 


Application checklist

Prior to completing the appropriate application, please ensure you complete the following actions:

  • ​​Email the Scholarship Chair to register as an applicant at jbmdlscholarship@gmail.com.  Include your name, phone number, and email address.
  • Scan in the following forms
    • A copy of your current High School/College transcript
    • 2 Letters of Recommendations (Note: if your school will not release letters of recommendations directly to you, please attach a document stating that your guidance counselor will email their letter to the jbmdlscholarship@gmail.com address. Include your school, the guidance counselor's name and email address if you have it, and your email address. When we receive the letter of recommendation, we will email you and let you know it was received. Please be sure all paperwork is submitted by April 6, 2018.)
    • For High School applicants, a STAT FORM completed by a Guidance Counselor. To download a blank STAT Form, please click here. 
  • Complete an Essay.  Essays should be word-processed, double-spaced, containing a maximum of 500 words but not less than 350. Do NOT use your name or the name of your school in the essay. Please use "student" or "applicant" or a personal pronoun.  Essays can be copied and pasted into the application form, or attached as a Word document. 
    • Essay topics (Pick one): 
      • Frequent moves are an inherent part of the military lifestyle and have allowed you to live in diverse places and form relationships with a wide variety of people. How have these experiences and relationships influenced your educational opportunities and subsequent choices?    OR
      • Discuss your previous service to others and the community. Explain how your sponsor’s service in the U.S. Military has influenced your actions or inspired you. What have you learned through your own service and sacrifice? 

All paperwork must be submitted by April 6, 2018. 

* please note: while we appreciate the sacrifices made by all those who have served, dependents of military members who separated prior to retirement eligibility are not eligible for our scholarship.
